Isca Academy

Teacher of History and Religious Education

Permanent, Full-Time, starting September 2020 (or sooner if possible)

Do you have a relentless drive to achieve outstanding progress and attainment with children regardless of their background and prior learning?

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, capable and innovative teacher, with a proven commitment to inclusive and inspiring teaching where each and every child can succeed. You will be an enthusiastic specialist able to teach History and Religious Education across KS3 and KS4. The post represents an exciting opportunity to be part of a vibrant and ambitious Academy working within the Ted Wragg Multi-Academy Trust.

Our school is located on a campus with purpose-built accommodation, offering spacious and excellent teaching and learning facilities. We currently have a roll of 920 students, growing to full capacity in 2021. Isca Academy prides itself on providing high quality comprehensive education. Our students have a broad range of abilities and aspirations on entry, from able, gifted and talented to students needing more support with literacy and social skills. Our focus remains on every student in our school exceeding expectations, whatever their starting point. Beyond academic credentials, we firmly believe in the value of a more rounded education which promotes creativity, self-belief and confidence, and as such, offer an exceptional extra-curricular and outdoor education programme.

Our History Department is a creative, forward thinking and dynamic department, growing to three subject specialists by September 2020. We follow a cross-MAT curriculum which allows teachers to focus on delivering challenging, differentiated lessons, and share expertise to moderate and plan assessments. Our five-year curriculum is diverse and well-resourced, encompassing topics such as the Norman Conquest and the Medieval World in Year 7, the World Wars, Civil Rights, Russian Revolution in Year 8 and Elizabethan England, Crime and Punishment Through Time, Weimar and Nazi Germany and the Cold War in Years 9, 10 and 11. History continues to be the most popular option subject at GCSE level at Isca Academy, and all students will study History until the end of Year 9 to further develop their historical literacy, ability to challenge and analyse sources, and to foster a life time curiosity of the past.

Our Religious Education Department has an excellent reputation within the school, and has attracted a number of visits from other educational establishments interested in our success over the years. Since 2002, the department has grown from a position where no students were taking GCSE exams in R.E to the point now where almost all students do so.  R.E. results are consistently amongst the best in the school, and compare very favourably with other schools who enter full cohorts into R.E examinations. The Department boasts talented, experienced staff who have a passion for the subject and who have a great working relationship and team spirit. Resources are plentiful and the three R.E. teachers each have their own room located next to each other. In summary, the Religious Education department is in brilliant shape, but could be developed further in fresh, exciting new ways by the new Head of Department.

The Ted Wragg Multi Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All applicants will be subject to a full Disclosure and Barring Service check before appointment is confirmed.
