SEND Teaching Assistant - Whipton Barton Federation

Whipton Barton Federation comprises of two schools and a nursery serving a large housing estate on the eastern edge of Exeter. We are part of the Ted Wragg Multi-Academy Trust, comprising seven Exeter schools, with the shared belief that all children irrespective of their starting points, have the capacity to be outstanding.

We are seeking to appoint a SEND teaching assistant to join the team. The successful candidate will be joining an established SEND team of skilled teaching assistants led by our highly experienced SENDCo. The work we do at Whipton Barton is innovative. We work as a team to ensure all children with additional needs work towards independence with the guidance and support of our specialist staff.

Children at our schools would not be able to identify “their” TA as we do not work on a one-to-one model. Different people work alongside children depending on their needs and teachers are expected to (and do!) take responsibility for all the children in their class. Whether it is our excellent personalised provision, evidence-based interventions, wellsupported Thrive plans or more structured therapeutic work, children with SEND get a good deal at Whipton Barton.

As the number of children receiving education health and care plans grows, so our SEND team grows. Within the team we currently have a range of expertise. We are looking for an additional team member who is bright, eager to learn and ambitious to give children the best education and care possible. If you chose to apply and have a particular expertise in the SEND field then we would be very pleased to hear from you. If you do not, but are eager to learn and are resilient in the face of challenge, then we would be equally keen to hear from you.

We would like to invite potential applicants to a Teams meeting to discuss the post with Ali Hirst, SENDCo, and Gary Read, Headteacher at 6.00pm on Wednesday 14th October. Joining the meeting is not part of our decision-making and applicants will not be disadvantaged if they do not visit. For further details please see the school website

The closing date for applications is midday on Friday 23rd October. Please email your application to  Interviews will take place on 4th November.

The Ted Wragg Multi Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and operate in accordance with the Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy. All applicants will be subject to a full Disclosure and Barring Service check before an appointment is confirmed.  This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English.
