Plymouth Pupils Visit Houses of Parliament

Students on their trip to the Houses of Parliament

Pupils from three Plymouth primary schools came together for an inspiring educational visit to London, including a tour of the Houses of Parliament.

The group from Marine Academy Primary, Ernesettle Community School and Tor Bridge Primary School travelled to the capital by train before making their way to Westminster on the London Underground, a first for many of the pupils.

During their visit to Parliament, pupils took part in an educational programme exploring how the UK parliamentary system works and the role Parliament plays in shaping the country. The experience gave them the opportunity to see democracy in action and deepen their understanding of how decisions are made.

The visit helped pupils develop confidence, communication skills and a greater understanding of civic life beyond the classroom.

The day also included a trip on the London Eye, where pupils enjoyed views across the capital and spotted many of London’s most famous landmarks.

Georgina Reid, Headteacher at Marine Academy Primary, said:

"This was a fantastic opportunity for our Debate Club pupils to experience Parliament first-hand and bring their learning about democracy to life. The children from all three schools represented their communities brilliantly throughout the visit and returned home full of enthusiasm for the experience."
