Young Filmmakers Shine at the Ted Wragg Trust Moving Image Awards

The red carpet returned to Devon Market Hall, Plymouth, this year as students from across the Ted Wragg Trust took centre stage for the 2026 Moving Image Competition Awards Evening.
Hosted in the 360° Dome Cinema, the event brought together students, families, staff and industry professionals to celebrate the creativity and storytelling of young filmmakers. This year’s competition featured 28 entries from schools across the trust, showcasing a vibrant mix of ideas, styles and powerful messages.
Guests arrived to refreshments, snippets of the shortlisted films and a lively photo booth run by two returning Year 13 students. With popcorn in hand, the audience then took their seats to enjoy the evening, with the winners announced and their films screened for everyone to enjoy.
Judges Sam Hatton-Brown, Video Producer, Dave Meadows, Managing Director at Pushed Media, and Dave Taylor, Producer/Director, praised the creativity, originality and confidence shown across the entries.
Carys Reville, Communications and Engagement Manager at Go South West, presented the Most Original Concept award, sponsored by Plymouth Citybus, celebrating bold and imaginative storytelling.
A highlight of the evening was the introduction of the brand new 360° Film Awards category, delivered in partnership with the team at Real Immersive. The awards were presented by Gary Futcher, Training and Learning Lead for Real Immersive, who also worked closely with students ahead of the event.
Gary delivered hands-on workshops in Whipton Barton Primary School, Marine Academy Primary and Lipson Co-operative Academy, supporting students to create immersive films and giving them the opportunity to see their work come to life in the Dome.

The evening wrapped up with photos and celebrations, with every student receiving a competition branded goody bag in recognition of their work. The Ted Wragg Trust hopes the event will continue to grow as a key part of its creative arts offer, with plans already underway for next year.
Rhys Phillips, Head of Media Studies at Lipson Co-operative Academy and Lead Event Organiser, said:
“I was blown away by the talent on display. The quality of production in each category was nothing short of exceptional. We saw such an amazing range of work, from Music Videos through to hard hitting Short Films, and it confirmed for me that this event allows our students the opportunity to tell their stories through Moving Image, providing a platform to show off their skills and dedication.
“The buzz around the Market Hall was infectious. It really felt like our students got the chance to experience an Oscars style evening and it was a real pleasure to see the audience’s reactions to the video productions. I’m very excited to see what next year brings, but for now I want to thank everyone who helped and got involved with this year’s event. It genuinely could not have happened without your time and support.”
Tim Rutherford, Deputy CEO of the Ted Wragg Trust, said:
"We are incredibly proud of our students and the creativity, energy and originality coming through in their work has been fantastic to see. Opportunities like this are at the heart of the Ted Wragg Trust, giving young people the chance to explore their talents, build confidence and share their ideas. It’s wonderful to see this event continuing to grow, and we’re excited for what comes next."
