We believe that bringing learning to life beyond the classroom is a core part of supporting our students to develop the skills, confidence, knowledge and love of learning that will support them to go onto live a life of opportunity.
That is why we are committed to providing our students with rich opportunities outside the classroom to learn, grow and make memories. Alongside our schools offering a wide range of enrichment activities, we provide a variety of unique Trust-wide opportunities for our students. You can read more about these events below.
Ted Wragg Awards
Our Ted Wragg Awards celebrate students, staff teams and volunteers from across our Ted Wragg family. This event is a unique opportunity to recognise and reward the remarkable contributions from across our family of schools, shining a light on those who go above and beyond to make a lasting impact.

Innovation Competition
The Ted Wragg Trust Innovation Competition seeks to discover students (Year 3 - Year 11) who demonstrate an aptitude to solve complex problems in innovative ways. Each year, school teams come together to present their innovative solutions to expert judges. More than a competition, students meet their peers, participate in unique themed activities and build their confidence and skills beyond the classroom.
Moving Image Competition
The Moving Image Competition, now in its second year, offers students from across our family of schools a chance to grow their skills and experience in creating short films. Students submit their short films with a chance of winning across 15 categories, from best editing to best performance. Hosted in the 360° Dome Cinema, the event brings together students, families, staff and industry professionals to celebrate the creativity and storytelling of young filmmakers.
Aspire Conference
Aspire Conference brings students in Year 10 and Year 11 from across our secondary schools together for an annual event designed to inspire their aspirations for the future.
Junior Chef Academy
The Junior Chef Academy is an exciting opportunity for 15 aspiring young cooks from across our Trust of schools to develop their culinary skills across ten practical sessions, from knife skills and soups to pasta, plant-based cooking, and desserts. Hosted at Exeter College’s Skills Kitchen, this hands-on programme gives students the chance to learn, cook, and create their own menu in the final week.
The Exe Valley Challenge and Jurassic Coast Challenge
The Exe Valley Challenge and Jurassic Coast Challenge, offered to Year 7 and Year 8 students, takes place annually at Isca Academy and features over 140 teams from schools across Exeter and the surrounding region. The aim is to provide an exciting opportunity for children to challenge themselves and work independently in a fun and safe environment.
Duke of Edinburgh Award
The Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award which launches in the September of Year 9, runs throughout the year and culminates in the Expedition Section in the Summer Term.
The Silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is open to Year 10/11 pupils who hold the Bronze DofE Award so that they can begin completing their volunteering, physical, skill and expedition sections.
The Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is open to Year 12 pupils who hold the Silver DofE Award at our 6th form schools.
Sixth Form Conference
Our Sixth Form Conference brings together sixth form students from across our schools, offering opportunities including university subject specific workshops, wellbeing support and activities to build relationships with others.
