Ted Wragg Trust students celebrate A Level and vocational qualification success

Students, families and staff across the Ted Wragg Trust are celebrating today as students receive their A Level and vocational qualification results and prepare for their exciting next steps.

There is so much to celebrate across the Trust this year, with record-breaking results, strong outcomes across A Level and vocational courses, and students securing places at leading universities, prestigious apprenticeships and exciting career pathways. From Plymouth to East Devon, young people have demonstrated incredible hard work, resilience and ambition, supported every step of the way by dedicated staff and families.

Across the Ted Wragg Trust, today's results are a source of enormous pride. While qualifications open doors to future opportunities, we know that success is about much more than grades alone. These results sit alongside years of personal growth, resilience, leadership, friendship and contribution to school life. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, through enrichment opportunities or in the wider community, students have embraced every opportunity available to them and leave our schools as confident, capable and ambitious young people.

Exmouth Community College

Exmouth Community College recorded one of its strongest sets of post-16 results in recent years, with pass rates rising significantly and improvements seen at every A Level grade threshold. Vocational qualifications also performed very well, demonstrating strong outcomes across both academic and technical pathways.

These excellent results have opened doors to a wide range of exciting next steps, including highly competitive university courses, prestigious apprenticeships, training and employment opportunities. The results reflect the reflect the Sixth Form's commitment to delivering exceptional educational experiences and outcomes for every student.

“There are so many brilliant young people and success stories to celebrate today. We pride ourselves on being a really comprehensive Sixth Form and it’s wonderful to see so many students meet and surpass their own personal targets, sometimes in very challenging circumstances.”

   

Lipson Co-operative Academy

Students at Lipson Co-operative Academy are celebrating a record-breaking year, with 78% of A Level grades awarded at A-C*, an impressive increase of 16 percentage points on last year. The outstanding results have opened doors to a wide range of future opportunities, with 97% of students securing their first-choice university destination and a third progressing to Russell Group institutions.

Students are also moving on to exciting apprenticeships, training and employment opportunities, reflecting the breadth of success across the sixth form. There was further cause for celebration in vocational qualifications, where students achieved an average grade of Distinction, demonstrating strong outcomes across both academic and technical pathways.

"Congratulations to all of our students on their A-level results and everything they have achieved. They have worked incredibly hard throughout their time in our sixth form, and today is a chance to celebrate their progress and success.

“Alongside their academic achievements, it has been wonderful to see students explore their interests, shape their ambitions and contribute to the wider life of our school community. We are proud of the young people they have become and wish them every success as they take their next steps."

    

Marine Academy Plymouth

Marine Academy Plymouth achieved the best results in the sixth form's history this year, with nearly 40% of students achieving A or A* grades, an average A Level grade of B and an impressive 100% pass rate. Students studying vocational qualifications achieved the highest possible average grade of Distinction*, demonstrating exceptional achievement across the full range of courses offered. The record-breaking results reflect the ambition, determination and hard work of students and staff, further strengthening the sixth form's position as one of Plymouth's leading post-16 providers.

“It has been a privilege to watch this group grow, both academically and personally, and to see them make the most of everything sixth form at Marine Academy Plymouth has to offer. The combination of high expectations, outstanding teaching, strong relationships and the opportunities available to our students has helped them leave us ready to take on some incredibly exciting next steps.

“Today is their moment, and they should be enormously proud of everything they have achieved. We certainly are, and we cannot wait to see what they go on to do next. We wish all of our students every success as they take their next steps.”

    

Queen Elizabeth’s School

Students at Queen Elizabeth's School are celebrating another successful year of A Level results, with the vast majority securing places at their first-choice university and progressing to courses at institutions across the country. Others have secured jobs and apprenticeships locally in Exeter and mid-Devon with some students enjoying a gap year to travel, reflecting the wide range of pathways available after sixth form.

The results cap another strong year for the school's sixth form, where students have benefited from a newly refurbished Sixth Form Hub, a range of enrichment opportunities including visits to Cambridge, Plymouth and Brussels, and outstanding success in the Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiads, with Gold Award winners placing in the top 8.5% of more than 17,000 participants nationally.

“Today is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our students and the progress they have made throughout their time with us. We are incredibly proud of the commitment they have shown and everything they have achieved.

“Our Sixth Form students have not only achieved academically, but have also grown through the experiences they have been part of, from exploring new subjects and ideas to contributing to the wider life of QE. It has been a privilege to support this group of young people, and we wish every one of them every success as they move on to their chosen pathways.”

  

Sidmouth College

Sidmouth College students achieved another strong set of A Level and applied qualification results this year, with 100% of university applicants receiving an offer, including places at Russell Group universities such as Bath, Newcastle, Exeter, Cardiff and Liverpool. There was also a 9% increase in the proportion of students achieving grades A-C or equivalent* compared with last year, while students on applied courses, including Health and Social Care and Sport Studies, achieved an average grade of Distinction*, the highest possible outcome, with progress significantly above the national average.

Strong outcomes were also recorded across a number of A Level subjects, including Biology, History, Photography and Art. These results reflect the hard work and resilience of students, supported by dedicated staff who have helped them achieve their ambitions and prepare for their next steps.

“Today is a chance to celebrate everything our students have achieved during their time at Sidmouth College. We are incredibly proud of the commitment they have shown and all they have accomplished.

“Our sixth form students have thrown themselves into every aspect of college life, from pursuing their academic interests to contributing to the local community. It has been a privilege to see them develop during their time with us, and we wish every one of them every success. Whatever their chosen destination, we look forward to seeing all they go on to achieve.”

    

Tor Bridge High

Tor Bridge High students are celebrating a strong set of A Level results this year, with more students than ever progressing to Russell Group universities. Alongside this success, students are preparing to take up places on a wide range of courses at universities including York, Bristol, Exeter and Plymouth Marjon, while others are embarking on apprenticeships and employment opportunities, including roles with the NHS.

The results cap a successful year for Tor Bridge High's sixth form, where students have combined their studies with a wide range of opportunities beyond the classroom. Through careers guidance, employer partnerships and mock interviews with Babcock International, students have developed valuable workplace skills and experience. They have also gained practical enterprise experience through The Bridge, the school's student-led café, while others have benefited from international visits and high-level sporting opportunities through the Plymouth Patriots Basketball Academy.

“Our sixth form experience is about much more than academic results, and it has been wonderful to see our students pursue their interests, take on new challenges and contribute to the life of our school community. From careers and enterprise to sport and enrichment, they have made the most of their time with us and leave us with so much to be proud of.
